FIVE members of the GB Boxing squad will box for gold on the final day of the World Boxing Cup: International Invitational in Colorado, America, following semi-final victories on day four.

Wins for Charley Davison, Owain Harris-Allan, Elise Glynn, Patris Mughalzai and Gemma Richardson mean that not only have they booked a place in today’s final, but they have also guaranteed themselves at least a silver medal ahead of their concluding bouts.

Six other members of the team were in action on day four but had to settle for bronze medals following defeats. Those boxers were: Savannah Stubley, Reese Lynch, Lewis Richardson, Harris Akbar, Taylor Bevan and Delicious Orie.

Super-mum of three and soon to be two-time Olympian Charley Davison, won her third bout this week after coming out on top of a 3:2 split against China’s Chang Yuan.

Davison’s other victories this week came against America’s Yoseline Perez and Shera Mae Patricio and she will now look to clinch gold against Canada’s Scarlett Delgado in the bantamweight final at 19:30pm.

GB Boxing will have both a male and female featherweight representative in today’s finals after Wales’ Owain Harris-Allan and England’s Elise Glynn made it two wins from two following unanimous victories yesterday against USA’s Francis Stewart and Czech Republic’s Lucie Sedlackova respectively.

Harris-Allan will now rematch Brazil’s Luiz Oliviera at 19:45pm, with the pair having faced off recently at the World Olympic qualifier in Busto Arsizio, Italy with Oliviera winning on that occasion to book a ticket to Paris 2024.

Glynn will also face a Brazilian opponent in her gold medal bout. She is up against Jucielen Romeu at 20:00pm.

There was an all-GB affair at light-welterweight as Patris Mughalzai and Reese Lynch went head-to-head.

It was a cagey affair between the 63.5kg boxers but it was England’s Mughalzai who came out on top unanimously to clinch a second victory of the competition, having recovered from losing the opening round to his teammate.

He will now face USA’s Dedrick Crocklem at 20:30pm.

The final boxer to book their place in today’s finals was lightweight, Gemma Richardson.

In what was her second bout of the week, following an earlier victory against Germany’s Felicitas Ganglbauer, the Scunthorpe boxer this time defeated USA’s Lisa Greer via a 3:2 split decision.

Now, only China’s Yang Wenlu stands between her and winning her first gold medal of 2024 at 20:45pm.
