R9 - Carlton v Melbourne - HB's Loves and Hates - The Mongrel Punt

What a ridiculous, captivating, infuriating, and thrilling ride of a football game on Thursday night.

Seriously, how can a side that looks completely inept in front of goal, sans the efforts of Christian Petracca, almost pinch a win over a team that appeared comfortable for close to the whole game? Such is the sport we follow and love.

The Blues got the jump on the Dees, holding Melbourne scoreless in the first quarter for the first time in Simon Goodwin’s tenure, and for the majority of the game, it appeared as though that early advantage was going to be enough. Every time the Dees managed to slide one through, it was as though the Blues were stung into action, answering the challenge immediately.

And it remained that way…

… right up until it didn’t.

I’m not sure how many of you remember this, but back when The Footy Show was doing great numbers, Sam Newman released an album called I do my best work after midnight.

I wish I could say the same.

If either of the Dees or Blues were to cover his efforts, how would their titles differ?

The Blues would be calling their album We do our best work before 8.10pm, whilst the Dees would be going with the title We do our best work when it’s too late.

Me?

Depending on who you talk to, I may not even have anything that warrants the title “best work”. People are so unkind…

A massive amount to get through in this one, including the game of Petracca, the unsung hero that is Alex Cincotta, and one of the worst dangerous tackle calls in the history of shitty dangerous tackles. Let’s jump into The Mongrel’s Loves and Hates.

The remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.

HB’s game reviews commence as members-only content. Sometimes, he opens them up to all after a day or so. But sometimes… he doesn’t! Most times, actually. He believes work such as this is worth twenty-five cents per day. If you don’t, that’s fine. You’re welcome to join and keep reading if you do.
