Titanic is one of the most iconic and culturally significant films in all of cinema. The film featured an incredible cast, with actors like Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Zane, and Kathy Bates playing significant roles and being directed by one of the most respected directors in Hollywood, James Cameron. The movie very quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed of its time, being nominated for and winning a number of Academy Awards.

This achievement can be credited to one of the most popular songs of all time, My Heart Will Go On, which was created for the film by legendary artist, Celine Dion. It is quite common for artists to have different reactions while performing their works on stage, however, Dion has a specifically strange reaction while singing this song during the 70th Annual Academy Awards.

Celine Dion Was Nervous Before Performing Her Titanic Song At The Oscars

During an interview on The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Celine Dion talked about one of the most memorable performances of her career, the time that she performed Titanic’s My Heart Will Go On, at the 70th Oscars. It is only natural that singing at such a significant and respectable event, with some of the most well-recognized faces in the world, anyone would get afraid and nervous. The singer revealed that, like anyone else, she was feeling a wide array of emotions before she got on the stage.

“Nervous? yes. Afraid? not. Anxious? Very Much. It’s like I felt good.” She went on, “It’s like, U’m about to sing this song that they wanna hear. It’s not gonna make a difference if it’s gonna win. It doesn’t matter. I just want to sing it the best way I can. I love my dress. The necklace was like not too bad too”

Dion revealed that though she was nervous and anxious, she was not afraid. The singer elaborated, stating that she was not as concerned about whether she would win the award she was nominated for or not, rather being more preoccupied with wanting to give a good performance. She stated that she knew that there were people who loved the song that she was about to sing so she decided to give her very best and feel her very best, mentioning a small remark about that necklace she was wearing.

Celine Dion Became Lost In Her Titanic Song And Scared Her Bodyguard

She then went on to say on The Rosie O’Donnell Show that during this event, Celine Dion wore a necklace called the Heart of the Ocean, which was a replica of the necklace from the Titanic. This piece of jewelry was so expensive that the singer had to be followed around by a bodyguard for the entire duration of her wearing it. These bodyguards became quite concerned when the singer got a little too engrossed in her performance of My Heart Will Go On.

“They freaked out. They though that they were looking for the heart just in case. And I hurt myself. I forgot. You know, when I sing, sometimes I get emotional and I hit myself I don’t know why I do that.”

While singing the song, Dion ended you slamming her fist against her heart, being lost in her performance. Unfortunately for her, the singer had forgotten about the huge piece of jewelry that was sitting on her neck. Not only did the bodyguards get very concerned that she may have damaged the piece, but Dion revealed that she also ended up getting her hand hurt during this action.
