After he was dumped as parliamentary secretary on Friday afternoon, a second complaint has come forward with allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards staff.

Premier Jacinta Allan issued a statement late on Monday night outlining how she had asked Mr Cheeseman — who represents the Geelong-based seat of South Barwon — to resign from caucus.

He is the second Labor man to be forced out of caucus this term, following Ringwood MP Will Fowles who was removed following claims of a serious sexual assault. The police have not substantiated those claims and he has repeatedly denied the allegations.

On Tuesday, Ms Allan told reporters the allegations were "of a nature that don't require the involvement of Victoria Police".

'There is no place' for Darren Cheeseman in my government, premier says

Ms Allan said in her statement the safety and wellbeing of staff was "not negotiable".

"This afternoon I received new information about further allegations of persistent, inappropriate behaviour by the Member for South Barwon towards another member of staff," the statement said.

"After enquiries by my office, and in consultation with my colleagues, tonight I asked the Member for South Barwon to resign as a member of the Parliamentary Labor Party — and he has done so.

"Following these new allegations it is now clear to me that there is no place for the Member for South Barwon in my government."

In a statement on Facebook, Mr Cheeseman said although he had resigned from the parliamentary Labor Party, he would not be stepping down from parliament altogether.

"I will continue to serve the people of South Barwon as their MP," the statement said.

"This is an incredibly distressing time for me and my family and I ask our privacy to please be respected."

Government minister Lily D'Ambrosio said on Tuesday that two women had come forward with complaints about Mr Cheeseman.

"They have a right to feel safe and be safe in a workplace," she said.

When asked about the allegations against Mr Cheeseman, Ms Allan said she was initially briefed last Wednesday on the complaints.

"I determined that the information that was before me did not meet the standards that not only I expect personally, but the standards that I uphold with the responsibility to enforce the ministerial code of conduct," she said.

Mr Cheeseman has served as the Member for South Barwon since 2018, and previously held the federal seat of Corangamite from 2007 to 2013.

The ABC has contacted Mr Cheeseman for comment.
