Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron has been discharged from hospital and cleared of any facial injuries following his collision with teammate Gary Rohan during Thursday night’s win against Melbourne.

Cameron was in a marking contest with Demons defender Jake Lever at half-forward before Cats teammate Gary Rohan came from the side. In attempting to spoil the ball, Rohan’s shoulder connected with Cameron’s head.

Cameron fell to the ground and was attended to by Cats trainers as play was stopped for 10 minutes. He was then taken to hospital for further assessment.

The Cats confirmed on Friday afternoon Cameron had been discharged from hospital “in the early hours” of Friday morning.

Cameron himself posted a video on his Instagram account, reassuring everyone, “I’m feeling a lot better than I did last night.”

“Thanks for everyone’s messages of support, I appreciate that,” he said, speaking in front of a bonfire.

After the incident, a distraught Rohan quickly walked to Cameron to be by his side before putting his hands on his head and joining teammates in the middle of the ground. Vice-captain Tom Stewart was seen consoling Rohan as Cameron was assessed on the ground.

“It was an awful collision and it was awful to be sitting there watching not knowing how he was doing,” Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones said.

Silence descended across GMHBA Stadium as Cameron was attended to before applause erupted as he gave the thumbs up while being driven off the field.

“It was very eerie here at the ground,” Bulldogs games record-holder Brad Johnson told Fox Footy at quarter-time. “There was about five minutes of silence as physios and doctors worked on Jeremy to make sure he was OK.

“The Cats players also got around Gary Rohan after that and took them a little bit to get going in that first quarter.”

Jack Bowes was subbed into the game for Cameron.

Minutes later, Melbourne star midfielder Jack Viney came from the field with an apparent shoulder injury after a seemingly innocuous incident with Cats defender Stewart.

But Viney recovered well and returned to the field for the second quarter.
