Police will investigate an alleged unprovoked headbutt on Cats superstar Jeremy Cameron at a Geelong pub last weekend.

It’s reported Cameron was watching the cricket at a South Geelong venue after the Cats’ loss to Fremantle on Saturday when he was headbutted by a fellow patron in an incident also investigated by the AFL’s integrity unit.

The Herald Sun reports the patron had approached Cameron at the Barwon Club at around 11pm.

“It is understood the pair had an amicable conversation before Cameron was headbutted out of the blue in an unprovoked attack, with contact made to Cameron’s mouth region,” the report read.

Geelong informed the AFL of the attack immediately and according to reports, Cameron has been cleared of any fault in the matter.

Victorian Police told the Herald Sun an investigation is underway after officers were called to the venue where it’s alleged a 30-year male was assaulted by a 39-year-old.

The alleged offender was removed from the premises.

The AFL has since cleared Cameron of any fault and confirmed the Cats informed the league immediately of the attack.

Luckily for Cameron and the Cats, Cameron is available to face the Power this Saturday night despite the alleged attack.

The premiership-winning forward didn’t suffer serious injury, having trained all week and cleared fit to face Port Adelaide in a must-win game for Chris Scott’s ninth-placed side.

Foxfooty.com.au hascontacted Geelong for comment on the matter.

Cameron has booted 44 goals from 17 games this season, missing Rounds 16 and 17 after entering concussion protocols.

The Cats will already be without star duo Tom Hawkins and Mark Blicavs for Saturday night’s match at GMHBA Stadium due to their respective hamstring injuries.

Blicavs has suffered a high grade hamstring strain, while Hawkins’ setback is a minor strain and is expected to be back training in some capacity later this week – although he won’t play this weekend.

Shannon Neale and Esava Ratugolea will come into consideration after their strong VFL outings. Neale kicked 3.4 from 21 disposals and 11 marks in a powerful performance up forward, while Ratugolea was a rock in defence with 20 touches and eight marks.

If the Cats wanted to include a smaller type to help on the ball, Ollie Dempsey (5.3 from 29 disposals, 13 marks) and Brandan Parfitt (40 disposals, 1 goal, 6 clearances) would come in off hot VFL form.
