Storm playmaker Jahrome Hughes is facing a one match suspension after an incident with a match official during Melbourne’s 30-26 win over the Warriors.

The star halfback has been charged with grade one contrary conduct by the NRL judiciary following the 30-26 victory at AAMI Park.

Hughes will miss one match with an early guilty plea but risks a further game if he fights the charge and loses.

In the 58th minute of the match, the Kiwi star pushed over referee Chris Butler in attempt to save a try, but the incident was not penalised at the time.

Canberra duo Ethan Strange (grade one careless high tackle) and Xavier Savage (grade one dangerous contact) will both be fined following the side’s win over the Tigers, while opposing playmaker Aidan Sezer will be docked $1000 for a high shot.

Knights five-eighth Tyson Gamble will be fined $1000 for a careless high tackle during his side’s extra-time loss to the Cowboys.

Hughes was one of the heroes of the Storm’s thrilling last ditch win after a crucial try-saver in the first half.

Warriors five-eighth Luke Metcalf delivered a perfect tip on pass to find winger Marcelo Montoya in space for what looked to be a certain try.

But Hughes had other ideas, delivering a cover tackle for the ages that forced Chris Butler to review his initial decision of a try.

For Bellamy, Hughes’ tackle had just as much influence of his team’s unthinkable win that Xavier Coates’ aerial effort.

“If he doesn’t do that we are probably 12 behind so you don’t get back from that,” Bellamy said.

“It doesn’t get the wraps Xavier’s effort got but it is just as important, stopping points is as good as scoring points.

“It’s an example of not giving up, I don’t know what the odds would be of him stopping that try. But he did his best and got rewards for it.

“The team got rewarded for that effort of him stopping the try.”

Hughes finished the clash with two try assists, eight tackle breaks and two linebreaks.
