In a short statement on Facebook, Senator Wong said they were "delighted that so many of our family and friends could share this special day with us".

The ABC understands the wedding was held at the Bird in Hand winery at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his fiancee Jodie Haydon were in attendance, alongside a number of Labor colleagues.

The couple's daughters, 12-year-old Alexandra and eight-year-old Hannah, were flower girls.

Thousands of messages congratulated the senator online when she released a photo, including from Australian Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil and Skills and Training Minister Brendan O'Connor.

The senator met Ms Allouache in 2007 and did not publicly announced their engagement.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas did not attend but congratulated the newlyweds.

"I'm happy for them and I hope they had a thoroughly enjoyable day," Mr Malinauskas said.

Opposition Senate leader Simon Birmingham sent his wishes on the senator's Facebook post.

"May their commitment to one another see them enjoy a lifetime together filled with love & happiness, along with additional strength in times of adversity," Mr Birmingham said.

Senator Wong was the first openly LGBTIQ woman in the senate and later in the cabinet when she was appointed Minister for Climate Change.

When Australia voted in favour of allowing same sex couples to wed in a historic poll in 2017, the senator became overwhelmed with emotion and cried in a moment captured and shared worldwide.
