Ajdin Hrustic opened the scoring in the first half with a deflected long-range effort.

Kusini Yengi headed home a great cross from Jordy Bos to make it 2-0 to Australia in the 61st minute to wrap up the scoring in the fixture at the Bashundhara Kings Arena.

Promising 18-year-old winger Nestory Irankunda became the 643rd Socceroo as he was handed a debut by Graham Arnold.

Joe Gauci started in goal for the injured Mat Ryan securing his second Aussie clean sheet, and Arnold deployed both Kusini Yengi and Mitch Duke up front for the second consecutive match.

Inside the first 10 minutes, Australia kept possession in their attacking half as the back line restricted Bangladesh from breaking forward.

Irankunda looked promising cutting inside off the wing and saw one effort soar past the upright early on.

Soon after, the deadlock was broken as Hrustic launched a speculative effort from distance that took a deflection over the Bangladesh keeper and into the net in the 29th minute.

The first half finished at 1-0 as the Socceroos racked up 70% possession and seven total shots in a dominant display.

Bangladesh were livelier in the opening exchanges of the second half through the counter attack however the Aussies were able to stifle any threats.

Newly crowned Johnny Warren medallist Joshua Nisbet was subbed on in the 50th minute for goal scorer Hrustic.

Yengi put Australia 2-0 up in the 62nd minute with a trademark header at the back post off a well-placed cross from Bos.

That was Yengi’s last involvement in the match as he was replaced by Adam Taggart and Daniel Arzani also came on to the pitch for Irankunda.

Another double substitution followed with Cam Devlin and Aziz Behich joining the fray with St Pauli duo Irvine and Metcalfe making way.

Arzani looked lively on the right wing, and Taggart was able to fire a shot in the closing stages but the score remained 0-2 in difficult and stifling conditions in Dhaka.

Australia did what was required to remain unbeaten with five wins and five clean sheets from five games. They now sit on top of their group with 15 points having secured first place in Group I with one match to play against Palestine in Perth on Tuesday night.
