Coach John Longmire has been buoyed by Sydney's evolving forward threat as his side secured a fifth consecutive victory and climbed into the AFL's top eight with a 24-point triumph over Gold Coast at the SCG.

The Swans were able to turn to a spread of goalkickers to overcome a determined Suns challenge, after emerging talls Logan McDonald and Hayden McLean stepped up at critical moments in Saturday's 18.6 (114) to 13.12 (90) win.

Will Hayward was the most damaging forward on the field with four majors, while McDonald (three goals) and McLean (two) were important just before halftime as the Suns threatened to pull away.

Midfielder Chad Warner then sparked a decisive period in the third term with a long-range left foot snap from the boundary, as goals to McDonald and Hayward stretched the margin to 21 points.

"We've looked at that when Lance hasn't played, and we'll continue to look at it and bring players through," Swans coach Longmire said of his forward set up without freshly retired club legend Lance Franklin.

"They were important goals. Those young boys (McDonald and McLean) have got some confidence and they were able to hit the scoreboard at important times."

Warner was immense throughout and gathered 28 disposals with 15 contested and seven clearances, as James Rowbottom and co-captain Luke Parker offered plenty of support for the Swans.

The latest victory in a five-match streak propels the Swans (11-9-1) into the top eight and last year's runners-up will hope to finish the weekend in the finals places for the first time since round five.

But Sydney will be sweating on the fitness of Joel Amartey after the ruck-forward was subbed off with hamstring tightness.

The Suns (9-12) started brightly and looked set to push the in-form Swans all the way until their third-term lapse.

They will rue missed opportunities early in the final term that only yielded five behinds.

The young onball brigade of Matt Rowell (25 disposals), Sam Flanders (23) and Noah Anderson (22) battled hard, as co-captain Touk Miller (22) limited emerging Swans star Errol Gulden's influence then made his own impact at the stoppages.

"We identified Errol Gulden as a really special player that's significant to the way they move the footy, and we just thought Touk would be a great option to try and nullify him a little bit, which worked," Suns caretaker coach Steven King said.

"(But) it gets to a point where a matchup might be working but the score is slipping away a little bit.

"So we had to drop that and see if we could get a spike from Touk around the footy, and try and win the game."

Goalsneak Malcolm Rosas was lively and booted three majors for the Suns, while Jack Lukosius and Levi Casboult added two each.

The Suns have lost nine of 11 matches on the road this season, only defeating Richmond and West Coast away from home, their hopes of a first-ever finals berth again falling short.
