The sparks between Rebel Wilson and now-fiancée Ramona Agruma didn't take long to fly.

In her upcoming book Rebel Rising: A Memoir, the Pitch Perfect star, 44, recalls meeting Agruma, 40, for their first date in person, after initially getting acquainted via FaceTime and phone chats when they were introduced by a mutual friend.

"She sets up our first date for a few hours after I land: lunch at the Hotel Bel-Air," Wilson recalls in the book, excerpted in this week's PEOPLE. "I’m so nervous. I’m also worried that if Ramona and I do hit it off, I don’t have much sexual experience with a woman. And I’ve only had time to read half of the Girl Sex 101 book."

"We both order food and we try to eat, but we can’t really eat anything. And so ... well ... I don’t want to embarrass Ramona, but ... we instead opt to go to the bathroom and make out," she continues. " 'I think you need to come back to my house,' I say. I’ve never just invited someone straight back home, but I’m only in L.A. for the week."

"I take her to my bedroom. We just ... connect. It feels beautiful," adds the Australian actress.

According to Wilson, their first in-person meetup came about after she and Agruma were connected "via text by our mutual friend, [Australian actor] Hugh Sheridan."

We talked about how it never quite seemed to work out with me and these 'dudes,' " the Isn't It Romantic actress writes in her book. " 'Why don’t you just date a woman?' Hugh quipped. 'Let me connect you with my friend Ramona.' "

"Ramona and I started FaceTiming and talking on the phone — getting to know each other the old-fashioned way," she continues, explaining that even though she "was supposed to stay in Australia through the holidays, in true Hollywood rom-com style, I jumped on a plane to fly halfway around the world to L.A. to meet Ramona."

And following their successful first face-to-face encounter, "I take Ramona as my date to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. We hold hands in front of all of Hollywood," Wilson recalls.

After the two went on to welcome daughter Royce Lillian via surrogate in November 2022, Wilson proposed on Valentine's Day 2023.

To pull off the surprise, Wilson told Agruma "that we’ve got to go to Disneyland to try the new Mickey and Minnie ride." But the actress had more than just Disney magic up her sleeve.

"Ramona sees the pastel rose petals all over the ground and the roses in vases," she writes. "I tell her how special she is to me. And then I get down on one knee and open the ring box. I end with 'So in this cliché way, on this cliché day, Ramona Agruma, will you marry me?' 'Yes,' she says through the tears streaming down her face."
