Broncos coach Kevin Walters credited his fullback Reece Walsh after a “strong performance” in a 30-14 win over the Cowboys, despite dealing with the death of his uncle during the week.

Walsh was everywhere for the Broncos in both attack and defence, and after scoring a game-sealing try in the 74th minute, showed plenty of emotion after signalling to the sky.

Fox League’s Brent Tate confirmed during the coverage that Walsh’s uncle had passed away, after Dan Ginnane noticed the star’s emotion.

“We’re seeing some emotion for Reece Walsh here as he looked up to the sky,” Ginnane said.

“It’s a big moment for him, it’s a big moment for the Broncos and Reece, who we have seen his emotion in the past, is letting it out at the moment.”

Walters paid testament to the 21-year-old for bouncing back after a “tough week”.

“He’s had a tough week Reece with family and the like. It was a really strong performance from him after a tough week,” Walters said in his post-match press conference.

“It was great to see him get that try and he showed some emotion when he got it.

“He made some really big plays for us. I thought his work out the back with Jock (Madden) and Ezra (Mam) was really good and defensively he came up with a couple of really good plays for us to get our numbers right.”

On top of his try, Walsh recorded 135 metres, two line break assists, a line break and four tackle busts to help Brisbane level with Penrith in the race for the minor premiership.
