Canberra backrower Corey Harawira-Naera has been stretchered from the field during the club's match with South Sydney after collapsing during a break in play.

Harawira-Naera was waiting for a Rabbitohs drop-out during the 65th minute when he fell to the ground. 

The New Zealand international appeared to have a seizure on the field as play was halted for close to 15 minutes.

"It was awful. I just spoke to the doctor and he said it was a seizure and they're unsure why. It doesn't seem to be any contact to the head, they're at a loss as to why it occurred," said Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.

"He's off to hospital now and our thoughts and prayers are with him.

"His family can understand he's in the best care. The medical people here have done a great job. 

"We'll be making contact with them [his family] ASAP.

"I'm happy with the win, but I'm more happy that Corey is conscious and in good hands." 

Moments before, Harawira-Naera had taken what seemed to be a regulation hit-up and played the ball without difficulty. 

Medical staff were able to converse with Harawira-Naera before taking him from the field. He was sitting up and conversing with medical staff in the dressing rooms. 

Harawira-Naera was later transported to hospital. 

"It was definitely one of the scariest things I've seen on a footy field. My heart goes out to Corey, I hope he's OK and doing well," said Raiders prop Josh Papali'i.

"He replied that he was OK when he came off the field. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

"We had a massive focus the set after that to do it for Corey.

"Us and the Souths players got around him, we didn't want the cameras to see him." 

South Sydney skipper Cody Walker spoke on behalf of his club after the match when he sent his best wishes to Harawira-Naera.

"It's not something you want to see on a footy field. We go to battle on the field and we want to hurt each other in a clean way but you never want to see a player like that," said Walker.

"One behalf of everyone at the club we want to send thoughts and prayers to his family."
