Spring Equinox 2023: Here's All You Need to Know

A time when the skies will remain blue but the earth will blossom in pink has finally arrived. The birds will chirp a little more and with blossoming flowers, the beauty of the earth will restore. The warmth of the sun will make you cosy and that's how the Spring will make you more lively. The Spring Equinox 2023 also called the vernal equinox is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere which carries a balanced day and night with itself.

EarthSky tells us the Spring Equinox will begin on March 20 at sharp 21:24 (Coordinated Universal Time). In the rest of the areas, time is set as per daylight saving –
• Honolulu (Hawaii): 11:24 a.m.
• San Francisco (California) and Victoria (Canada): 2:24 p.m.

• Santa Fe (New Mexico) and Guadalajara (Mexico): 3:24 p.m.
• Minneapolis (Minnesota) and Kingston (Jamaica): 4:24 p.m.
• Montreal (Canada) and Charleston (South Carolina): 5:24 p.m.
• Halifax (Canada): 6:24 p.m.

Over the Atlantic, here are the timings
• Dublin (Ireland) and Accra (Ghana): 9:24 p.m.

• Paris (France) and Algiers (Algeria): 10:24 p.m.
• Helsinki (Finland) and Alexandria (Egypt): 11:24 p.m.

For the above east time zones, the equinox arrives on March 21. While looking into some more areas for its timings –
o Istanbul (Turkey) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia): 12:24 a.m.
o Dubai (United Arab Emirates): 1:24 a.m.
o Mumbai (India): 2:54 a.m.
o Bangkok (Thailand) and Hanoi (Vietnam): 4:24 a.m.
o Singapore: 5:24 a.m.
o Seoul (South Korea) and Osaka (Japan): 6:24 a.m.

For people living in the South of the equator, the equinox means fall while people living in Northern Hemisphere will enjoy longer days, flowers, and greenery.

There is an imaginary line from North to South called the axis along where the Earth rotates. This rotation is responsible for day and light. The axis tilts at 23.5 degrees. This brings more sunlight to one hemisphere of the planet as compared to the other for half of the year’s orbit around the sun. This difference in sunlight results in different seasons. More effect is visible, especially in late June and late December.

Many people wonder if the spring equinox comes with equal days and equal nights. However, it is not the case. Spring Equinox reflects slightly more daylight than the darkness and most of it depends on your location on the planet.

The Persian New Year, Nowruz falls on the first day of spring that welcomes all the positivity, peace, and prosperity. Tradition states the new purchases of clothes on this auspicious occasion. In China, during the spring equinox, the “trying to stand egg upright” game is played.
In Japan, the Spring Equinox is declared a public holiday to celebrate the new beginning through family gatherings and paying visits to the graves of family members.
