On October 21, 2022, there was not a single Superman fan who was not celebrating. With the release of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, fans once again got to see their favorite Henry Cavill don the red-blue suit in the end credits of the film. Fans believed that Henry Cavill’s Superman was back for good, until one unfortunate day. After rumors started spreading that Henry Cavill’s return was limited to a short cameo, James Gunn affirmed all our fears.
With a promise of a new, young Superman, the new DCU moved forward leaving Henry Cavill behind. While this decision was not easy to accept for the fans, what hurt them the most was how excited the actor was to play Superman again. There were even rumors that he will reprise the role in The Flash, but the Kryptonian superhero turned out to be Sasha Calle’s Supergirl instead, breaking hearts yet again.

After Henry Cavill gleefully announced his return to Superman, he appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where he once again stated just how happy and excited he was to play Superman. Cavill said that he did not give up hope even once and that he was looking forward to the bright future of the superhero.
“The character means so much to me. It’s been five years now. I never gave up hope. It’s amazing to be here now talking about it again. There is such a bright future ahead for the character. I’m so excited to tell a story with an enormously joyful Superman.”
Well, that just tore our hearts into a million pieces! Cavill even talked about what it was like putting on the Man of Steel suit again during a visit to the Warner Bros. studio. He stated, “that is one of the top moments in my career. It feels great to have the opportunity to wear it again.” Who knew Black Adam was the last we were going to see of Cavill’s Superman?
His removal was such a huge disappointment because it was made to look as if Cavill was back for good. In fact, the actor’s fans were excited to see him in The Flash before it was announced that the Kryptonian superhero in question is going to be Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. Cavill’s supposed cameo in the film was also erased from the final cut. However, reports are now stating that old footage from Justice League with Cavill will be shown in the film in place of the cameo.

Sasha Calle as SupergirlBefore the release of The Flash, Calle took it upon herself to get the approval stamp from Cavill. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, the actress stated that she went to meet Cavill, gave him a hug, and asked him if he was proud of her. To her pleasant surprise, Cavill appeared to be more than proud and congratulated her for her performance.
“I met him actually after the movie was done, months later. I gave him a big hus. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience. I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz?’ And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’”
Getting praised by Cavill himself meant the world to Calle. We are now looking forward to seeing Calle’s performance as Supergirl since Cavill seems to be a fan as well!
The Flash zooms into theatres on June 16.
