Brumbies go down to silky Waratahs in Sydney

The Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies have gone down 45-10 to a Wallaroo heavy Waratahs side in Sydney on Saturday evening.

It was The Waratahs who would find their feet early at home with winger Maya Stewart crossing the try-line early to open the scoring for the match. Then converted by Flyhalf Arabella McKenzie, the Waratahs would find a 7-0 lead inside five minutes.

The points would continue in the 13th minute as NSW's skipper Piper Duck made the most of a scrum close to the Brumbies line, finding herself an opportunity to nab the second try of the match.

Converted again by McKenzie The Waratahs would lead by 14 points in as many minutes.

Both sides then entered an arm wrestle for field position where the Brumbies to get into their stride with some hard-hitting defence and determined carries.

The Brumbies would then break the points drought through Faitala Moleka taking the opportunity for a penalty goal, getting the Brumbies on the board.

On the verge of half-time as Duck is gifted her second try on a silver platter, following Flanker Emily Chancellor breaking through the Brumbies defence close to the line before getting away a late pass.

Coming out with a vengeance in the second half the Brumbies would force their way over through Prop Sally Fuesaina to open their try-scoring account. Launching onto a short ball close to the line Fuesaina would be impossible to stop for The Waratahs defence.

Not long after however, a swift backline play from the Waratahs resulted in Stewart bringing up a try double for the night.

Adding to their account, vice captain Georgina Friedrichs darted up the sideline as the Waratahs found success on the short-side to chalk up the 5th try for the side in blue.

To conclude the scoring two Waratahs would pinch some points as Stewart would bring up a hat trick and Tatum Bird would end her night with a try.
