Zendaya Swapped the Naked Dress for Naked Armor at the Dune ...

16 Feb 2024

True Zendaya fans will recall the star's Joan of Arc-inspired chainmail Versace gown that she wore to the 2018 Met Gala. I say this with utmost sincerity: lives were changed that day! And now, for the world premiere of Dune: Part Two, Zendaya is changing lives once again.

The Emmy-winning actor showed up to the sand-covered red carpet wearing literal metal body armor. Forget the naked dress, what about naked armor?

This incredible vintage get-up, pulled from Mugler's Fall/Winter 1995 couture collection, features a chrome suit of armor interlaced with clear panels across the arms, the chest, the back, and the legs (yes, even including a cheeky glimpse at the rear end). Zendaya being Zendaya wore the look with a blinding diamond necklace with a large blue gemstone encrusted in the middle, as well as Mugler's matching metallic stiletto platform heels.

The star's suit of armor is just the latest in a long line of Dune press tour looks that her stylist, Law Roach, lovingly referred to as “method dressing.”

“I think of it as method dressing, kind of like method acting,” Roach previously told Bazaar while discussing one of Zendaya's first major Dune looks: a dystopian-esque gown featuring large swaths of multi-colored fabric wrapped around sculptural circular shapes. The dress is the brainchild of independent designer Torishéju Dumi.

“When I saw it after the designer showed it in Paris, I just kept in in the back of my head,” Roach continued. “I tried to see if we could modify it a little bit, and if you’ll notice, the skirt is a little bit different from how it showed on the runway.”
