Former NRL star Blake Ferguson’s contract with the Kurri Kurri Dragons of the semi-professional Newcastle Rugby League competition has been sensationally torn up after just one game.

Ferguson was the Bulldogs’ marquee signing this season, however the 34-year old NSW and Australian test representative was told he was no longer wanted at the club according to The Daily Telegraph.

It has been reported that a number of off-field allegations involving Ferguson was the reason for his termination from the club, with teammates unhappy with the veteran.

Adam Devcich, the general manager of the Newcastle Rugby League competition, kept it brief in his statement on Ferguson’s axing.

“Blake was signed by Kurri but the club has released him from his obligations,” Devcich said.

“His contract has been terminated by mutual agreement. That is all that we or the club will say.

“Neither party will make any further comment.”

Ferguson has had a chequered past with off-field indiscretions, dating back to his time with the Raiders in 2013 when he was charged and subsequently found guilty of indecent assault.

Not long after being released by the Eels at the end of the 2021 season, Ferguson linked up with Japanese rugby club NEC Green Rockets, however just a couple of months later, he was imprisoned for over 30 days for assault and possession of an illicit drug.

Ferguson scored 148 tries during 267 NRL appearances, while also representing New South Wales in nine State of Origins and Australia on seven occasions.
