He was once considered one of Australia's greatest track and field athletes.

And on Wednesday, Jackie 'O' Henderson got hot under the collar during a very cheeky chat about new Sunrise host Matt Shirvington's infamous bulge.

Photos of Shirvington revealing his rather large manhood went viral back in 1998 while he was competing in the Commonwealth Games.

Co-host Kyle Sandilands said he recently told his good pal and Today show host Karl Stefanovic he and Jackie discuss 'Shirvo's willy a lot'.

According to Sandilands, Karl kicked off the discussion, asking, 'Have you seen the todger on the guy?' To which Kyle replied, 'Oh, yeah... Jackie and I talk about the guy's willie a lot.'

'Do you know how many women watch that that run in slow motion?' Kyle Sandilands said, to which Jackie quickly retorted: 'I bet they did'

Oh, look at it there it is,' Kyle giggled as a clip of Shirvington sprinting in compression gear was displayed on a big screen in the studio.

'It looks like he's got a live possum in his groin desperate to get out. This thing's moving, shaking and wiggling from one leg!'

Kyle then reminded listeners Shirvington used to be 'a hot kind of pinup boy'.

The conversation concluded with the co-hosts suggesting Sunrise may benefit from airing slow motion clips of Matt's legendary run with the tease along with the tagline, 'Coming soon to Sunrise'.

It comes after Daily Mail Australia revealed the athletics star turned TV host will be crowned David Koch's successor at Sunrise on June 5 after a three-year plan to prepare him for the top job.

Channel Seven insiders have confirmed Shirvington, who has been tipped as Koch's likely replacement since the Beijing Olympics, will have his new role made official on Monday, June 5, four days before Koch films his final show as Sunrise host.

The new appointment follows a carefully curated training process for the popular 'Shirvo' who is widely liked by Seven's top executives as well as by viewers.

It's understood Koch himself has given Shirvington his 'blessing'.

'David believes Matt is a great fit and thinks he will do a fantastic job,' the source revealed.

'He's been filling in for David for a few years now and has earned his stripes. Viewers like him and he is very well-regarded internally so it's a natural step up for him.'

Shirvington was earmarked for the job back in 2020 when he took part in Seven's Olympic coverage team - a role he carried well in the delayed Games in 2021 and one that inevitably earned him his 'hosting stripes'.

He also cut his teeth with hosting roles on the the mini-golf games show Holey Moley and Ultimate Tag which, while not a hit in the ratings, provided more evidence he had the 'chops' to handle a major format.

Shirvington, who has spent the past two years waiting in the wings as Sydney's weekend sports presenter, will soon begin the daily 3am wake-up call slog - one of several factors which ultimately led to Koch's decision to step down after 21 years.
