9News reporter Liz Daniels has warned there could be some traditional blue-ribbon seats won by teal candidates, similar to what was seen in the federal election.

Former Liberal premier Mike Baird said the teal movement is a reminder for all parties that no seats can be taken for granted and members need to represent their community or risk losing.

One of the seats at risk of the teal wave is Wakehurst, which was held by retiring Health Minister Brad Hazzard.

"Losing someone like him with then a popular independent is certainly a risk," Baird said.

The majority of Nine's panellists are predicting a Labor victory.

Six of the eight commentators think Labor would form government, with most predicting a majority.

Former Liberal premier Mike Baird was the only one to predict a Coalition victory.

NSW Education Minister and Nationals MP Sarah Mitchell sat on the fence, saying "let's see what plays out".

The clocks have hit 6pm, and that means polls are now closed across the state.

It'll still take a while for results to start coming in, but stick with us as we take you through all the key developments on election night.

9News reporter Charles Croucher claims Dominic Perrottet made the deliberate request to keep federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton "far, far away" from campaigning.

"Peter Dutton is not an asset in NSW," Croucher said.

"It is part of a bigger problem for brand Liberal across the country. We saw them wiped out in WA, lost in SA, and had third terms for (Labor) governments in Queensland and Victoria."

It comes as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been out and about campaigning with Chris Minns.

Former federal Liberal MP Jason Falinski has called East Hills in the south-west the "canary in the coal mine" for the Perrottet government.

"It might give an idea of whether it is going to be a good or bad night for Dominic Perrottet," he said.

Labor MP Courtney Houssos said Labor was looking for a good cross-section of votes across Wollongong and the Shire.

"I think there are a host of seats across Western Sydney that we will be keeping a close eye on," he said.

"I think we have to be winning seats like Parramatta and Riverstone and I think we will hopefully be picking up seats like Leppington and Heathcote."

Sarah Mitchell has spoken highly of former premier Gladys Berijiklian but couldn't answer whether or not she would have ren-won her seat of Willoughby in this election.

"There is deep affection for Gladys in the electorate," she said.

Mitchell said it was even more so after Berejiklian resigned over an Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation.

"She was a great premier and incredibly important work she did during the pandemic," she added.

Chris O'Keefe added Berejiklian would have won "at a canter", as she became a national figure after COVID-19 and there is a deep appreciation from NSW women for the former premier.

Former Labor premier Morris Iemma said Chris Minns has had a "remarkable" pathway to leadership after years of turmoil in the Labor party's ranks.

"He has taken over the party leadership at the time when Labor was thrashed at a by-election," he said.

"In less than two years, Chris has dragged the party to a position where it is competitive in winning an election."

Former Liberal premier Mike Baird said Chris Minns did what a leader should do during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"He did what was right for the state and country", Baird said.

"Dom is determined to do what is right like his gambling reforms."

He said they were both authentic during the campaign which was a "real credit to both of them".

"I think it is role modelling what politics should be," he said.
