Grammy award-winning singer and rapper Lizzo has been announced as the first headliner for Splendour in the Grass and it’s about damn time. The news was announced ahead of the full line-up release which is set to drop soon. This will mark Lizzo’s first Australian performance since 2020. Revealing the news on Instagram festival organisers said, “Announcing our lineup all at once is so 2020!” adding that the full lineup was coming in a few weeks’ time.

Splendour in the Grass

The hugely popular music and arts festival will return to North Byron Parklands from July 21 to July 24, where it has been held since 2013. The Good As Hell singer is set to take over the Splendour in the Grass Amphitheatre for one night only and tickets go on sale as early as next week.

The festival returned last year after two years of pandemic cancellations but the event was derailed massively due to heavy rainfall and onsite flooding. The campsite was closed for the first day of the festival with thousands of festival goers stranded in the rain. Despite that it drew a crowd of over 40,000 people.

Festival organisers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco issued a new statement last year apologising for the conditions at last year’s festival.

“While we can’t control the weather, we can manage how we respond and for that, we are deeply sorry,” they said.

No further details have yet been released but according to the festival website, over 100 of the world’s most acclaimed musicians and DJs along with local talent will be part of one of Australia’s premier music festivals. Tickets drop on Thursday, March 23. Head here for more details.
