'Suspicious' fire destroys golf clubhouse north-west of Melbourne
A "suspicious" fire has destroyed a golf clubhouse in Victoria's Macedon Ranges overnight.
About 17 Country Fire Authority (CFA) units responded to the fire at Gisborne Golf Club on Daly Street about 2.25am.
The clubhouse is also home to the Gisborne RSL Sub Branch, which described the incident as "devastating" a week before ANZAC Day.
It took crews nearly two hours to deem the fire, which had destroyed the clubhouse, as under control.
"(It's a) sad day for the community," the Gisborne RSL Sub Branch said.
"The Gisborne Golf club was the home of the Gisborne RSL Sub Branch. As an RSL we have lost everything we had there right before ANZAC Day.
"We wish to thank the firefighters that attended for doing a great job as they always do. It is such a shame a beautiful building and part of Gisborne has been lost."
The CFA said the incident was being treated as "suspicious".
Gisborne is located about 54 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
